Timing

From Mark Batterson...I know I post a bunch of things from him, but he says alot that I like...

Time is relative.
What I mean by that is this: the way we experience it is subjective. It depends on what you're doing. Ever been on a date with someone you love? Time flies. Ever been on a date with someone you didn't like? Speed dating isn't fast enough.
The way we experience time also depends on how old we are. If you're six years-old, summer break is 4% of you life. If you're twenty-five, it's 1%. If you're fifty, it's .5%. The older you get, the faster time seems to fly because relatively speaking it becomes a smaller and smaller fraction of your life! By the way, that is why when you were a kid, a two-hour trip in the car seemed like an eternity because relatively speaking, it was much longer for you than the adult who was driving!
So what?
Well, I think most of us have a hard time handling a bad day. We have a very low threshold for circumstantial uncertainty or spiritual discontinuity. We need answers. And we need them now. I would suggest that we need some biblical perspective. When we look at our lives through the lens of Scripture, our perspective on time changes.
We have a hard waiting for God to fulfill His promise. But what about Abraham and Sarah? They had to wait 15 years before Isaac was born. We have a hard time suffering for a season. But what about the invalid in John 5 who was in that condition for 38 years. And that's when the average lifespan was 20-30. We have a hard time waiting for God to make sense of our circumstances. But what about Joseph? He was a slave and a prisoner for 17 years before becoming Prime Minister of Egypt. Or Moses? He was a fugitive for 40 years! And we have a hard time waiting to fulfill our calling. But even Jesus didn't transition from carpentry to ministry til he was 30.
We need to zoom out and get some biblical perspective. We think in days. But we might need to think in years. Here's what I know for sure: those that God wants to use the most have to go through the longest season of preparation. You might have to struggle a little bit longer so you can learn some more lessons or develop some more character. You might need to suffer a little bit longer so God can reveal a little bit more of His glory in your life!
What I'm getting at is this: trust His timing. He is never early. He is never late. As we grow spiritually, I think we take a different perspective on time. It's less about chronos--time. It's more about kairos--timing. And for the record, He is far more concerned about who you're becoming in the process than when you arrive at your destination. Maybe you need to quit praying for deliverance and start praying for revelation.
One last thought from Acts 1: "You don't get to the know the time. Timing is the Father's business."
Not much has changed has it?

If it were only this easy....

Not saying anything about my marriage...but I do find this funny and if you are married, then you can appreciate the humor.

Boston Museum of Science

We went to the Boston Museum of Science on Monday. It was a complete madhouse since it was Spring Break and all the kids were off...then, of course, it was President's Day too, which meant a bunch of Dad's like me were trying to be good and get out to do things with the family...it was crazy!
Anyway, here are some video clips I took during our day...there are a bunch of picture on my Facebook page, but I wanted to post at least a couple of different things here...

God's Armor Bearer Book II (God's Armor Bearer) God's" Armor Bearer Book II by Terry Nance

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars

Terry Nance reminds us in this book that we should "bloom where we are planted".
He provides keys to longevity, keys to commitment, keys to attitude and keys to teamwork.
The book is a reminder that God has called each of us to be of unique service to the body and that we are NOT to worry about whether we are the hand or the foot or the ear...instead, we are to trust that God has given us unique abilities and put us in a place where those abilities can bear fruit. Too often we find ourselves looking at other opportunities and seeing that the grass appears greener...even in volunteer positions at church...Nance reminds us that God often where we "feel we are being led" is simply our desire to have a bigger, better and more prominent role, rather than fulfilling and being exemplary in the role we are in.
It is a tightrope of course, and we must always try to hear God's call to us, but Nance does remind us that where we are now, we should be doing our best and supporting those that God has put in leadership roles above us to fulfill the vision that God has instilled in them.

Interesting thought...

From Mark Batterson's blog...

"I recently read a fascinating story about a musical trainer who worked with Opera singers who could not hit certain notes within an Octave, even though the notes fell within their vocal range. It was a mystery. The trainer did extensive testing on their vocal chords, but he couldn’t find any reason why they couldn’t hit those notes. On a whim, he tested their hearing. And what he discovered is that these Opera singers could not sing a note they could not hear. The problem wasn’t singing. The problem was hearing.
Made me think of that phrase that is repeated throughout the New Testament: he who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says. I think many of us are trapped in negative cycles or sinful habits or destructive addictions because we haven't heard the loving voice of our Heavenly Father say, "This is my child in whom I am well pleased."
When you start to hear the voice of God--His loving voice, His graceful voice, His assuring voice, His powerful voice--you begin to sing what you're heard. By the way, this is why it's so important to read the Word. When you open the Bible God opens His mouth.

Superbowl Excitement

A quick picture of the boys on SuperBowl Sunday. They were so excited to get to stay up late and watch the SuperBowl and especially the SuperBowl commercials that were going to be 3D. As you can see...they were more than ready.

New roof is finished

Yep...just paid the company by check for them completing the work. It is kind of sad to spend thousands of dollars and not really see any difference...but, I know that it was needed and it does improve the value of the house. Kristen also does like the look, as the color is just a little different.

Back into the groove

Hoping to get back on track with blogging, reading, etc now that Kristen is back from CO. Even with her back, it took a couple days for us to get our feet under us and re-establish our patterns. So....back to work again tomorrow and hopefully a few posts during the week on what is going on and such for everyone.
We are having our roofers finally come tomorrow...so in the next couple days we will have a brand new roof :)
Maybe I will take a before and after to see if anyone will even be able to recognize the difference...:)

Home Alone

Kristen is in CO this week, helping some of her family, and that leaves me...Home Alone, with the boys. We are making it, so far...after all, it is only day 2 :)
Not that I have ever taken her for granted, but, it is an interesting experience that every man should HAVE to go through. I think it is easy to look over how much gets done around the house...and that is with it being me...and I am not nearly as exacting as Kristen is when it comes to cleanliness.
So, stay tuned. Jaden is at school, the other two are down for naps...and I had time to post. We shall see if I am able to again this week :)
BTW, I did watch the game last night and even let the boys stay up long enough to watch the 3D commercials...which were pathetic...let me pass on my congratulations to Jeremy who is probably still smiling.
