Wild Goose Chase

Wild Goose Chase Wild Goose Chase by Mark Batterson

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
If you have ever felt like you were in the middle of a wild goose chase you might be wasting your time, or you might be right in the middle of the path that the Holy Spirit has led you down. How do you know the difference...well, you have to look at the root of why you are doing what you are doing. Are you submitting to God's call in your life, and thus enabling Him to take you where He wants you? If so, then you are enjoying a wild goose chase that is the adventure God has planned for your life.

Ultimately, this book is about understanding those "cages" that help keep us contained and unwilling to follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Recognizing them as the cages they are can give you the power to step out of them and towards God. Each of the cages is presented with biblical examples and enough substance behind them to support the conclusions Mark is drawing, but I think the reason why this book is so readable and enjoyable is that Mark does a great job of accessing those core emotional elements that we all have, like a sense of adventure and can intimately make a connection to the material he has written up. I know that I have often wondered why church seems so mundane and muted compared to how I believe God engages us...perhaps church is institutionalized our faith somewhat. But, if you are up for a challenge, then read this book and see where the Holy Spirit may start leading you on your own wild goose chase.
