Walking with God

Enoch was the first man in the Bible who walked with God:

After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him" (Genesis 5:22–24).

This is pretty interesting. Considering how often our relationship with God is talked in metaphor as a walk, it makes me wonder what this means that Enoch is the first man who is specifically referenced as 'walking with God'.
What should we learn from this reference?
How close was Enoch's relationship after 300 years of walking with God?
I know I will be thinking on this a little bit over the next
